ReplyDeleteI wonder how many of us have ever read the speech given by Kit Siang at Bukit Bendera after the conclusion of 1999 GE. The self-centered Apek who really believed he could do no wrong finally swallowed the bitter taste of defeat in 10th GE.
ReplyDeleteOf course he blamed anything under the sun for his defeat, except for himself.
In such an emotional reaction driven by anger and frustration, Kit Siang blamed MCA for threatening Penang's Chinese voters that a vote for DAP meant a vote for PAS, and if PAS came to power, there would be no more pork and liquor.
Quote:
"I have no regrets over my defeat in Bukit Bendera if this can help the people in Penang and Malaysia to see through the irresponsible politics of fear and falsehoods of MCA and Gerakan and realise that a vote for DAP cannot be a vote for PAS and an Islamic State where there can be no pork, alcohol or temples."
Never did I realize that Chinese voters had been so shallow and dumb to take into account that kind of nonsense.
Whenever Kit Siang utters his speech, he can't never escape from playing racist. He simply cannot hide his Islamophobia and Malayphobia that grow thicker each day.
During the same event at Bukit Bendera, he expressed his fear of Islamophabia and Malayphobia, and I quote:
“With DAP marginalised in Parliament and in Malaysian politics, can Gerakan, MCA and MIC stop UMNO from lurching towards Islamisation and Malay-inisation policies to compete with PAS?. The marginalisation of the DAP in Parliament and UMNO’s primary concern in the next five years to respond to PAS’ political challenge by a spiral of Islamisation and Malay-sation policies is also bad for Malaysia’s economic recovery and prosperity.”
I have been searching around looking for recorded history that supported an idea the existence of DAP MPs in Parliament did really help in nation building. The first Penang Bridge that spurred further economic growth in Penang was initially protested by DAP, claiming that a mega project of that magnitude simply wasted public fund.
Too bad even among the rarest intellectuals in PAS, they never wanted to learn the past and present of Kit Siang. Since most of the info is available in English, perhaps language barrier makes them shy away from searching the reading materials.
